Curtis Evert, 79, of Brainerd, died Oct. 13, 2024. He grew up in St. Paul, attended Central High School, played basketball for Macalester College and graduated from the University of Minnesota.

Curt raised his family in Eden Prairie, retired from the insurance and financial planning business, and moved to Gull Lake and Arizona.

Curt is survived by his high school sweetheart, Julie (Sunny), with whom he shared 56 years, and by two sons, Erik (Amy) and Rob (Kristin). He was a proud grandfather to Charlie, George, Kendall, and Connor. Preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and John Evert, he is also survived by his brothers, Jack (Sally) and Howard, as well as many extended family members.

He loved to be on the water, be it on his boat or on a cruise ship. He was an enthusiastic sports supporter, an avid reader, and a Corvette aficionado. He supported his church, community, and country by serving on numerous boards and as an Army reservist and longtime Rotarian. Curt had an unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. He was known for his great humor, quick wit and strong opinions — “a tall guy with a big heart.” A service and celebration in honor of Curt’s life will be held at a later date in the Twin Cities.
