A $15.8 million renovation and expansion of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) truck station in Eden Prairie is underway.

Expected to be complete this summer, the project involves renovation of the existing 28,000-square-foot facility and construction of a 31,000-square-foot addition, all located at 7333 Bryant Lake Drive, south of Wooddale Church and bounded by Highway 212.

The project will create warm truck storage and truck-washing stations, as well as updated offices and truck-maintenance bays.

MnDOT architect Brian Ivers noted that the state agency has had a truck station in Eden Prairie since the mid-1970s, but snow- and ice-removal operations have changed dramatically since then, including the use of larger trucks, necessitating new, larger, and more modern facilities.

Additional safety and energy-efficiency features are also part of the building project.

Ivers said Nine Mile Creek runs through the property, so MnDOT worked closely with the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District to preserve water quality. The agency also consulted with City of Eden Prairie staff and obtained a city building permit, but did not go through the planning commission and city council review process as many development projects do.

Jesse Johnson, a communications and engagement coordinator for MnDOT, said the project began in September 2023. Substantial completion is expected around mid-July, with some additional wrap-up work extending into August.
