Hennepin County has relented on its plan to restripe Baker Road to three lanes following the Eden Prairie City Council’s unanimous recommendation March 2 to leave the road as it is.

Resurfacing of the road between Martin Drive in Eden Prairie and the I-494 bridge in Minnetonka will move forward this summer, but it will be striped in its current four-lane configuration, according to a March 4 post on the county’s website.

The project includes construction of pedestrian curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

“Later in 2021 spring and summer, we will being work to upgrade pedestrian ramps and complete the pavement maintenance project, and will continue to monitor the roadway for safety concerns,” the post said.

The county cited safety concerns for its proposed restriping the roadway between St. Andrews Drive and Pinnacle Drive to three lanes with a left turn lane and wider shoulders.

A number of residents living in the vicinity of Baker Road mounted an effort to stop the restriping portion of the project and several of them addressed the City Council before its March 2 meeting.

Council members unanimously sided with residents against the project.
