A Bloomington man is facing felony drug charges after Eden Prairie police said they found methamphetamine in his bag following a shoplifting incident at Walmart.
Trent Robert Williams, 40, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with fifth-degree drug possession and misdemeanor theft.
Police were called to Walmart, 12195 Singletree Lane, on Dec. 1 after store employees reported that a man had passed all points of sale without paying for several items, according to the criminal complaint. Loss prevention staff had already stopped him when officers arrived.
Williams had purchased a cell phone but stayed in the store, placing additional items into his Walmart bag before heading to self-checkout, where he scanned only some of the merchandise, the complaint said. The unpaid items totaled about $53.
Police arrested Williams. During a search of a cross-body bag he was wearing, officers found a small plastic bag containing a trace amount of a clear crystalline substance, as well as another bag with multiple crystal-like rocks inside. Field tests showed the substance was methamphetamine weighing 6.02 grams with packaging, according to charging documents.
Williams remains in custody on $3,000 bail with conditions, including no alcohol or drug use, random testing, staying away from the store, and avoiding firearms or dangerous weapons.
He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Feb. 4, 2026, at Hennepin County Criminal Court in Minneapolis, according to court records.
