A man wanted for more than a year on a felony criminal sexual conduct charge tied to an alleged 2024 incident in Eden Prairie was taken into custody on Nov. 20 after authorities executed an outstanding warrant, according to court records.
Luis Gonzalo Haro Chavez, 42, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for an alleged assault involving a girl under 14. The criminal complaint was originally filed on May 24, 2024, after Eden Prairie police received a report from a medical provider. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
According to the complaint, the alleged incident occurred on May 22, 2024, at an apartment on Chestnut Drive in Eden Prairie, listed at the time as Haro Chavez’s residence. Police say the girl’s younger sibling witnessed part of the encounter and told her parents, prompting them to seek medical care for the victim the next day. A forensic exam and interviews were conducted, and investigators later executed a search warrant at the residence.
Before officers arrived, Haro Chavez fled the apartment, the complaint states. Using license plate reader data, investigators later learned that his vehicle had been located in Illinois. Federal authorities notified police on May 24, 2024, that he had booked a flight to Central America from a Chicago-area airport for the following morning. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest that same day.
Eden Prairie police confirmed that last week’s arrest was the execution of that outstanding warrant. The jail roster does not list his current city of residence.
Haro Chavez was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on Nov. 20.
At his first court appearance on Nov. 21, Judge Maximillia Utley set bail at $1 million, according to the court’s register of actions. A public defender was appointed to represent him.
He remains in custody. His next court appearance — an omnibus hearing — is scheduled for Dec. 15.
