The Eden Prairie Police Department recognized new hires, standout employees and longtime volunteers during its Annual Awards and Recognition Program held last week, according to a department news release.
Five recently hired officers took the ceremonial oath of office before family and friends. They had previously taken the official oath on their first days with the department.
Officer Dallas Fisher received the Chaplain Tim Power Award, named for the late Father Tim Power, who served as a police and fire chaplain for 24 years. The award honors an employee who shows consistent care for people, demonstrates empathy, encourages teamwork and fosters trust in the department and community.
Officer Tony Behl was named Officer of the Year for his professional and compassionate work in several roles, including retail crime officer, crime scene technician, Explorer adviser, SWAT negotiator, field training officer and his current position as a juvenile liaison officer at Eden Prairie High School.
Public safety telecommunicator Rachel Selness was named Civilian Employee of the Year for her exceptional service, mentorship of new dispatchers and 24 years as a tactical dispatcher with the SWAT team.
The department also honored the Reserve Unit’s Color Detail for 20 years of volunteer service. The volunteer group raises and lowers flags at 13 city facilities following proclamations from the president or governor. Over two decades, members have responded 757 times, contributing roughly 3,000 volunteer hours.
