With federal SNAP benefits disrupted by the government shutdown, PROP Food is expanding efforts to meet rising local food needs.
The Eden Prairie-based nonprofit announced in a press release this week that it will hold its first mobile food distribution from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Eden Prairie Center parking lot near the former JCPenney store.
The event, organized in partnership with Second Harvest Heartland, will feature a climate-controlled food truck stocked with fresh produce, protein and shelf-stable items. PROP will also distribute food from its own inventory, along with ready-to-eat items donated by E.A. Sween Company of Eden Prairie. Food will be available while supplies last.
PROP currently serves more than 200 households each week through its Food Mart and curbside pickup. The organization has added appointments and prepared emergency food boxes to help families affected by the suspension of federal nutrition aid.
