With more local families turning to PROP Food Shelf for help, the Eden Prairie nonprofit is encouraging residents to donate during this year’s Give to the Max Day campaign to support neighbors facing food and financial insecurity.

The statewide fundraising event for Minnesota nonprofits runs through Nov. 20, and all donations made to PROP Food during the campaign will be matched up to $25,000, according to PROP.
“Now is a great opportunity to double the impact of your gift to PROP Food during this time of uncertainty for many of our neighbors,” said Prima Sisinni, PROP’s director of development and communications.
In its statement, PROP noted that about one in 13 Minnesotans relies on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Because of the prolonged federal government shutdown, a disruption in SNAP benefits for November “is a likelihood,” the organization said.
In Eden Prairie alone, such a disruption would impact about 2,257 residents, PROP said. The organization has already seen an increase in people seeking assistance and currently serves more than 200 households each week through its Food Mart and curbside appointments.
Give to the Max Day has inspired nearly 1 million donors to contribute more than $355 million to about 14,000 Minnesota nonprofits since it began in 2009.
Donations to PROP Food can be made online or mailed to PROP Food Shelf, 14700 Martin Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344.
PROP Food is a registered 501(c)(3) organization providing food and financial assistance to residents of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen.
