Minnesota State University Moorhead computer science majors, including Maxwell Sheridan of Eden Prairie, took first place at the 2025 DKC³ Collegiate Computing Competition, held Oct. 17 in Thief River Falls.
Hosted by Digi‑Key Electronics, the competition brought together 20 university teams, each typically composed of four students, to tackle rigorous programming and word-problem challenges.
Minnesota State Moorhead entered two teams in the event, made up of active members of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Club. Team Function Skibidi — including Sheridan, James Zook of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Dan Colson of Maple Grove — took first place. Computer Science and Information Systems faculty member Ronni Kurtzhals advised both teams.
Despite competing with only three members instead of the usual four, team Function Skibidi emerged victorious in a landslide. The team received a $5,000 cash award for the club, and each member earned an individual prize valued at $300. It’s the first time Moorhead students have captured the top spot at DKC³.
Sheridan, a mathematics and computer science major, is the son of John and Renae Sheridan of Eden Prairie.
