PROP Food has launched its annual “Keeping Families in Their Homes for the Holidays and Beyond” campaign as rising housing and utility costs continue to strain some Eden Prairie and Chanhassen residents.
The nonprofit, which provides food and short-term financial assistance to families facing eviction or utility shutoffs, said demand has grown as many clients have lost jobs, seen paychecks halted, or endured months without nutrition benefits. Last fiscal year, PROP served 1,547 households; 91 received emergency rent, mortgage or utility help to remain stably housed.
A local couple and Scheels in Eden Prairie Center have teamed up again to offer a $50,000 matching gift for the campaign. It marks the couple’s eighth year providing a $25,000 match and Scheels’ third year matching their contribution.
“We aspire to evidence our thankfulness to God in our daily life by doing justly, loving mercy and kindness, and walking humbly loving our neighbor,” the couple said in a statement. “Recognizing the growing challenges and consequences of homelessness, our hopes and prayers are to keep families stable, secure and safe in their apartments or homes.”
Scheels said it was “humbled to play a small role in such an impactful campaign,” adding that it appreciated PROP’s work serving residents in Eden Prairie and surrounding communities.

PROP Executive Director Jenifer Loon said community support is especially critical this year. She noted that some of the government housing-assistance grants PROP relies on are suspended and that rising housing and utility costs have increased the strain on clients.
“We are so moved by the generosity of such faithful individuals and corporate partners of PROP,” Loon said. “Support from our community is more critical than ever this year to help fund our financial and utility assistance programs.”
Donations for the Keeping Families in Their Homes campaign can be made at propfood.org/donate or mailed to PROP Food, 14700 Martin Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344. The first $50,000 received by Dec. 31, 2025, will be matched.
