Eden Prairie’s first significant snowfall of the season left roads slick Saturday — but it also brought enough accumulation for the Staring Lake Park sledding hill to open Sunday, the city said on social media.
The 700-foot hill and its warming house will be open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, weather permitting. The sledding area sits on the north side of the Staring Lake Park Building at 14800 Pioneer Trail and operates during the winter when snow levels allow.
Plastic sleds are required; metal-runner sleds, skis and snowboards are prohibited. The hill has no tow rope. Warming house hours are Monday through Friday, 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and non-school days, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m., though all hours depend on conditions.
Saturday’s storm dropped 3 to 5 inches across the Twin Cities, with 6-inch totals in Carver and Scott counties, according to KSTP meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas. The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen reported 6 inches Sunday morning.
Yuhas said many roads remain “slippery and snow-covered,” even on major routes, and urged drivers to allow extra travel time.
