An 18-year-old Woodbury man has been charged with felony fleeing a peace officer after allegedly leading Eden Prairie police on a high-speed chase that reached more than 120 mph and ended in a rollover crash early Oct. 31.
According to a criminal complaint filed Nov. 3 in Hennepin County District Court, the driver, identified as Tobis Antione Williams Jr., 18, of Woodbury, was observed by an Eden Prairie officer at about 2:50 a.m. Oct. 31 after merging onto Highway 169 from Interstate 494 near Eden Prairie. The officer reported the vehicle was swerving between lanes and traveling about 80 mph.
When the officer activated emergency lights to stop the vehicle, Williams allegedly accelerated to more than 120 mph, passing other cars on the shoulder before exiting onto Highway 101, where he briefly drove the wrong way before crashing into a median and rolling over several times, the complaint states.
Williams was arrested at the scene. A blood sample was taken pursuant to a search warrant and submitted for testing.
He was charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony punishable by up to three years and one day in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
According to jail records, Williams was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on Oct. 31 and released Nov. 3 after posting a $20,000 bond with conditions.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 22 before Judge Shereen Askalani.
