U.S. Navy Capt. Luther J. “Lou” Ellingson, 80, formerly of Eden Prairie, died Oct. 4, 2025, in Montevideo, Minnesota.
A brief military service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Family and friends should gather at 8:50 a.m. at Assembly Area 2. A celebration of life will follow from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at VFW Post 425, 100 Shady Oak Road, Hopkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to VFW Post 425 (Hopkins) or the Lewy Body Dementia Association at lbda.org.
Lou is survived by his son, Charles “Chuck” (Melea); daughters, Elizabeth (Adam) Schotzko and Katharine (Chris) Oliver; seven grandchildren, Mason and Matthew Ellingson, Avery, Evan and Eli Schotzko, and James and Evelyn Oliver; brother, Victor (Charlotte); and sister-in-law, Donita.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula; parents, Julian and Alma; and brother, Douglas.
