A man died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot during an Eden Prairie police investigation at a Chaska home Wednesday morning, authorities said.
At about 10 a.m. Oct. 8, Eden Prairie investigators went to a residence in the 100 block of Liberty Heights Drive in Chaska as part of a criminal investigation, the Chaska Police Department said in a news release. Chaska officers assisted.
While investigators were speaking with an adult woman outside the home, officers heard what sounded like a gunshot from inside, police said. They immediately backed away and called for additional units.
As officers waited for backup, the woman called 911 and reported that a man inside the home had shot himself.
When officers went inside, they found the man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. They began life-saving efforts, and he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were inside the home when the gunshot occurred, and no force was used, police said.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an independent investigation at the request of the Chaska Police Department.
An Eden Prairie police spokesperson said investigators had gone to the home “to speak with a person who was wanted for felony theft and property damage in multiple cities across the metro.” The case remains under investigation.
The identity of the deceased, according to the Chaska police media release, will be released by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
