Drivers should prepare for extended single-lane and ramp closures on Highways 212 and 5 in Eden Prairie as a $7 million road improvement project enters a more disruptive phase beginning Monday, July 14.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is repairing concrete pavement, repaving shoulders, and upgrading guardrails along both highways between Eden Prairie Road and Interstate 494. The concrete on these stretches is more than 20 years old.
Starting July 14 and continuing through September, crews will reduce traffic to a single lane in one direction – either eastbound or westbound – on both highways within the project zone.
A ramp closure already in effect – from Mitchell Road to westbound Hwy. 5 – will remain closed through 4 a.m. Monday, July 14.
Two full weekend closures of Hwy. 5 between Eden Prairie Road and the Hwy. 212/5 split are scheduled later this summer:
9 p.m. Friday, July 25, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 28
9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4
During those closures, traffic will be detoured via Hwy. 212 and Hwy. 41.
MnDOT says the work will result in a smoother ride and improved safety once the project is completed in September, weather permitting.
