Seven Eden Prairie residents have been named among the 2025 candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
They are Ziwei Chen, a student at Eden Prairie High School; Becker Curry, a student at Minnetonka High School; Shayan A. Farhan, a student at The Blake School; and Emily E. Oberleitner, Nicholas Song, Jessica Yue and Calvin J. Zhou, all students at Eden Prairie High School.
Scholars, all graduating seniors, are selected based on their superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities.
Application is by invitation only; approximately 4,000 candidates are identified each year from each state, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and among the families of U.S. citizens living abroad. A review committee selects about 650 semifinalists, whose applications are reviewed by the Commission on Presidential Scholars.
The commission selects up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars each year, who are announced by the U.S. Department of Education in May and receive the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion in June.
