Let’s Go Fishing Eden Prairie launched its first Hooks and Ladders event at Lake Riley on Monday, Aug. 26, with Eden Prairie firefighters participating.
The evening outing brought together 20 local children, ages 8 to 15, who learned how to bait hooks and handle their catches under the firefighters’ guidance.
The event is modeled after the successful “Cops and Bobbers” program, which pairs Eden Prairie police officers with local youth. Let’s Go Fishing Eden Prairie held its fifth annual Cops and Bobbers event in June.
Scheels of Eden Prairie donated a youth rod and reel to each of the 20 young anglers participating.
Let’s Go Fishing Eden Prairie, established in 2012, is a nonprofit organization that provides fishing and boating experiences at no cost to seniors, veterans, youth, and individuals with disabilities. The Eden Prairie chapter, with two boats on Lake Riley, is part of a network of 19 affiliates across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
