In observance of Juneteenth, Eden Prairie city offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19.
Recognized as a federal holiday since 2021 and as a state holiday in Minnesota since last year when Gov. Tim Walz signed it into law, most banks and the stock market are closed in observance, as are federal, state, county, and city offices.
Most Hennepin County offices and departments, including license service centers and all libraries, such as Eden Prairie Library, will also be closed. Normal business hours will resume on Thursday, June 20.
The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail or packages. FedEx and UPS will operate with adjusted schedules.
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States, located in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free.
Visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture for more information on Juneteenth’s historical legacy.
