The citywide parade planned for April 27 to celebrate 100 years of Eden Prairie Schools has been postponed until fall 2024.
The parade was planned in conjunction with the City of Eden Prairie and the Eden Prairie Historical Society. EP Schools said on April 3 that the change was made due to “unforeseen circumstances,” but the parade would still be happening.
Other significant celebrations are still happening as scheduled, however.
On May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m., all community members are invited to a Family Fun Day celebration at 8100 School Road.
Attendees will see recent updates to the Historic Gym, historical displays, a presentation by the Eden Prairie Historical Society presentation, a vehicle fair, and a resource fair. The event will also feature food trucks and hands-on activities like face painting and arts and crafts, a book fair, and playground time.
On May 18, the entire 21+ community is invited to a Citywide Prom. Prom-goers are encouraged to have fun dressing up, whether in formal wear they wore to their senior prom, or picking a favorite decade. The Historic Gym will be specially decorated for the night, and will also feature historical displays celebrating the past century of EP Schools.
Entertainment will include live music by Wondercure, remarks by retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Paul Anderson and other community leaders, and even the crowning of prom royalty. Tickets are on sale now through the Community Education portal.
The Eden Prairie Historical Society has been busy collecting vintage memorabilia for the parade and historical displays. They are looking for loans or donations of old cheerleader and sports uniforms, trophies, old instruments, photos, and other artifacts. Contact the historical society at EPRemembers@gmail.com or (952) 949-8580 to learn more.
Eden Prairie hasn’t had a citywide parade through town in many years. Eden Prairie Historical Society recently shared a video of the 1964 Schooner Days parade on its Eden Prairie Remembers Facebook page. The film was shot by Florence (Hanson) Moore Munier and donated from the personal collection of Linda Brekke Mona.
