Approval of new cell towers in Franlo Park and Crestwood Park – 69 feet tall and 76 feet tall, respectively – is among the items on the Eden Prairie City Council’s meeting agenda for Tuesday, April 2.
The request to build the towers comes from Verizon Wireless, which says the towers are needed to provide better telecommunications service for those areas, according to a city staff report. Franlo Park is in southeastern Eden Prairie and Crestwood Park is in southwestern Eden Prairie.
The towers are about as tall as a typical light pole for a city ball field.
The city will receive a lease payment from Verizon Wireless amounting to $28,000 for each site for the first year of service, according to the report. This rate will increase by 3% each year for each site through the end of the agreement term in 2049.
The agreement is one of a long list of items on the council’s “consent calendar” – usually approved in one vote. These are items that do not require public hearings.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road. The meetings are also broadcast on City TV and Facebook.
