Oak Point Elementary had an opportunity to build trust and strengthen our community following a hacked Zoom call where children as young as pre-K were exposed to pornography, violence as well as a bomb threat.

Multiple attempts were made by parents, such as myself, to have meetings with the school, as well as district leadership. When a meeting with Principal (Chris) Rogers was attained, questions from myself, along with other parents, were met with vague apathy.

One month later, a communication is finally sent out addressing the events. For one month, we’ve been left wondering, “Why is our prized school district forgetting about the Oak Point families? What feels like trying to pretend like this never happened?”

Attempts were even made with our school liaison officer to get questions answered regarding safety in the schools, and even there, our attempts were unanswered. Basically, it feels as if our system was tested, and we came up short. Moving forward, I’d like to call for Eden Prairie’s crisis response processes to be strengthened and refined.
