An Eden Prairie police officer was recognized on Tuesday by the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety for his work in stopping two teenagers who were racing vehicles at nearly 100 mph down Pioneer Trail.
Officer Todd Groves was on proactive traffic patrol near Pioneer Trail and Staring Lake Parkway on April 5 when he noticed two cars racing at dangerous speeds, reported the Eden Prairie Police Department blog on Thursday.
Upon pulling over both drivers, Groves found out that they were teenagers, one aged 17 and the other 18. Both were cited for speeding and careless driving.
In recognition of his efforts, Groves was presented with a certificate and a challenge coin from the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety.
“The EPPD and the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety are both grateful for Officer Groves’ efforts at stopping this reckless behavior before it turned into a tragic situation,” the blog stated.
