What a difference a day made for the Eden Prairie Eagles boys basketball team.
Coming off their third defeat in a row – a 75-50 loss to Buffalo on their home court Tuesday night – the Eagles received some last-second heroics from guard Luke Rapp to knock off Prior Lake.
Trailing 62-60 with seconds remaining, the senior brought the ball across mid-court and launched an off-balance shot from well behind the three-point arc as time expired. The ball bounced on the rim several times before falling through, giving the Eagles a dramatic 63-62 victory.
Rapp led all scorers with 20 points. Sophomore Max Lorenson added 16, while sophomore Cam Riggins-Brown and freshman Nolen Anderson each had 8 points in the contest.
After Tuesday’s loss to Buffalo, interim head coach Trevor Mbakwe said the team needed to “have short-term memory” and put the game behind them.
They did just that, outlasting a Section 2 opponent in a game that holds added significance for the fourth-ranked Eagles, who need to maintain an optimal position for section pairings, which are fast approaching.
Eden Prairie travels to St. Michael-Albertville to take on the Knights Friday at 7 p.m.
